Dear friends, customers and supporters of mumms®,

Twenty years ago, I got into the hospice industry through Unix consulting and custom programming on a Unix platform. One of my customers had problems installing hospice software under Unix and contracted me to install it. At the time, this was the best hospice software in the industry, however, the programs needed customization to meet the needs of the hospice mission. Therefore, I wrote and copyrighted a new application. I lost hundreds of thousands in hours worked, but hoped it would pay off in the future.

At first, I didn't know anything about hospice, but not many people did back then. I went to my first NHPCO meeting in 1990 in Detroit, where I had an exhibit booth, slapped on my mumms® banner, and started selling mumms®. For several years, mumms® Software consisted of me and me alone. After the software began taking off, I hired someone to take care of the administrative work. I traveled to do demos and installations across the country and eventually started exhibiting at more conferences as well.

Through my travels, I met wonderful people who went into hospice because they felt the need to give quality care to patients. These people did not enter hospice for business or financial reasons, although I’d say 98% of them ran small non-profit organizations. This truly enhanced my opinion and I signed on to the wonderful concept of hospice.

I most admire the compassion and dedication I’ve seen in hospice. I know a lot of Administrators, many of which come from nursing background. I’ve noticed dramatic differences between hospice nurses and nurses in other settings. They are more dedicated, compassionate, and concerned about patient care.

I fully devoted my time to hospice starting in 1993 as the industry began to blossom. My mother died of cancer in 1996, and I strongly recommended that she go in hospice care. The end of life care that she received in hospice made a huge difference for her and our entire family. The hospice that provided her care was one of our mumms® customers.

Over the past 20 years, I have seen many changes in the hospice industry and in mumms®. From the beginning, we were much more innovative and user-friendly than other software in the industry. Customers always commented on the user-friendliness and logical layout of our programs. We were the first hospice software provider to implement the ASP model in 1997 - no other vendor had thought of it, not even the "big boys". This incredible breakthrough by mumms® meant that a hospice would not need to purchase their own server, equipment, network, backups, etc.
Additionally, implementation could begin immediately instead of taking months to set up.

My goal for mumms® in the next 20 years is to have the largest percentage of hospices using our programs. As our company has continued to grow, we have added members to the mumms® Family that I believe can make this possible. I’ve been involved with hospice for 20 years, and our Vice President, Linda Smith has been involved for 30 years. We also have on staff two very powerful, experienced Quality Assurance/QAPI Experts and Nurse Demonstrators, that were involved in hospice for many years before joining the mumms® Team. Our programmers are the most innovative, experienced, and educated in the field - our PAS programmers have been with us for over 15 years and have an excellent understanding of the hospice industry. Members of our technical support department have worked in hospice agencies for many years before becoming members of the mumms® Team.

I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to all of our customers for their loyalty and confidence in the mumms® System. We are fortunate to have a tremendous reference list because we have so many satisfied customers.

Thanks again, and I look forward to the next 20 years!

Sincerely,
Leo Radosta
CEO, mumms® Software
